California Appellate Wins
Norris v. Crane Co. No. B196031, 2008 WL 638361 (Cal. App. 2 Dist. Mar 11, 2008) (unpublished).
The California Court of Appeals affirmed a jury verdict in favor of the family of a U.S. Navy veteran who developed mesothelioma and died from his exposure to asbestos. The Court held that Crane Co. was liable to this man who contracted mesothelioma through “bystander exposure”—that is, being nearby while other people worked with asbestos products—even though Crane Co. did not manufacture the asbestos products but instead used asbestos components in their valves.
Results depend on the facts of each case.
